Annoying questions

I HATE when people (teachers and old ladies at church) bug me about my diabetes.  It gets old especially when your at a new school!! im sooo sick of it!!

(AprilDaisy16) #2

i know exactly what you're talking about! i've also had adults that have no experience at all with diabetes acting like they know more than i do. it's stupid.

i hate it when people i just meet tell me what to do i think i know more about it than they do.

(rach123) #4

I get those silly questions all the time like "Whats on your arm?" or "Does it hurt?"

(nikkaayy) #5

I hate it when people ask questions like "does it hurt" DUH it hurts lol ur not making it better! one girl at school even asked me if i was sad that i would have diabetes forever!!!!lol  and i definatly hate it when people ask if i shud be eatin something! i no wat i can eat so dont be askin me!!

(Jessieface) #6

Oh, I hate it when people ask 'Do you think you should eat something?' or 'Can you have this?' Well, hm, I've been doing this for 6 years now. I know when I have to eat, and I know what I can have! I really don't mind the 'Does it hurt?' question because to me it's a relative term. It hurts on some days and others its a walk in the park. Too bad I dont get the 'walk in the park' days as much as I'd like too! But yeah, those questions bug me. Or when a Type 2 person I know (whose like in their sixties), says 'I know how you feel...' Oh, sure you do. You take oral meds. I take shots and am connected to my 'beeping pancreas' 24/7. You're old. I'm seventeen. You have highs never worse than 300. I have highs over 500. Your pancreas works. Mine doesn't. Arg. Woo, okay, done. Haha. Yay for the newbie! O.O

i find it annoyingwhen i have to eat at a time when i really dont want to.

(Michy11) #8

i hate when people ask me if my shots or testing my blood hurts, i ssy no they dont hurt they tickle, then they will say something dumb like well just you just just used to it, then depending on the person how how they asked the question, ill say you dont you try getting used to a shot and finger prick  3 times or more a day every day for the rest of your life.

I hate it when its the same people who ask the same dumb questions over and over again.

Oh gosh, Courtenay, I know how you feel! I know about 3 or so people with Type 2 and it's frustrating when they compare the two. Its like... Type 1 is an autoimmune disease. Type 2 is a lifestyle disease(other than the other way you can get it). I hate when people just assume like they know instead of just keeping their pie holes shut. Even my non diabetic friends get mad at me because I can't do something because of a high or low. Or when family or friends ask 'You gonna be okay?' or 'Do you think you should test?'. I hate those. Or when, like, someone is eating something really sweet in front of you and they are like 'I feel bad eating this in front of you, cause I know you can't have it,' I hate that. Its like 'I don't care if you're eating it. I eat sugar, too. Just in moderation. Go ahead, stuff your face. You're the one with a working Pancreas,'. Lol, but yeah. It's very annoying when people do that, or really, all of the above. Gets me frustrated.

I found it really maddening when a guy in my class brought in cupcakes on halloween and handed them out in the middle of the afternoon. AND THEY WERE THICKLY COVERED IN ICING!!!Everyone in my class knows I have it yet he didnt think to give me advance warning or bother to bring nutrition facts! Then my best friend brought in cupcakes on her birthday and didnt give me advanced warning or bring nutrition facts. She handed them out at a better time because Iwas scheduled to eat but she didnt know if it was a boxed mix or anything! I thought she would know better than anyone! plus the cupcakes were humugous. I was so tired of having to watch everyone eat cupcakes(this was a couple days after halloween) that I went I dont care if my blood sugar goes high because I`m going to eat this cupcake!(good thing I had gym because after my blood sugar was high).

Honestly, i think the most anoyying question ever is "Cant you get rid of it if you just excersise?" its like what the freak!! if i could get rid of it by just running, i wouldnt of had it in the first place. im 5'6 and 100 pounds, do i look fat to you?? i mean come on! oh and i love when people are like arent you to skinney to be diabetic?? then i have to explain to them that there are three different types of diabetes, and I have the one that you get by genetics..not by being fat(:

the class was having a test on sleep(we had no study time or warning). one of the questions was like can diabetes(didnt mention wich kind) and other diseases be caused by a lack of sleep? my teacher said yes it can! i was telling her i have diabetes and it was not caused by a lack of sleep. type 2 may be but type 1 certainly isnt. my pancreas did not stop working because i didnt get enough sleep! and the teacher is like well(the sign that you have to think to win!) type 2 is in the categorie of diabetes...

uggh!

I know what you mean... I've had nurses telling me what I've done wrong and what i should do. My blood sugar was 365 one time and she was like "you need to eat more... because you might go low" I was thinking what the heck? My blood sugar was high and she wanted me to eat more... Later when I was trying to tell her I needed more insulin she didn't change her response I ended up calling my parents about it and FINALLY the nurse Listened!!! I really get annoyed about people who think they know more than me just because there older or have more education.

yea thts the question i hate "does it hurt" everyone always asks me tht. I also dont like it when  people say " im so sorry." or " I feel so bad for u" its not like thts helping. And actually i dont really care about  having diabetes. and I kinda like it, it makes me diffrent , and i like feeling diffrent. i dont feel sorry. Im perfectly fine with it. except checking my blood sugar, I hate doing tht. I wish that had some device tht checks it for u, i dont even care about if i have to do shots, its just the checking my blood sugar tht gets me.

That reminds me that just the other day, on a health survey one of the questions asked what weight-training/lifting can positively impact health. One of the multiple-choice answers listed was 'prevention of diabetes.' I groaned inwardly as I really cannot stand it when diabetes is referenced as such a general topic, especially when it's ridiculous to think that lifting weights can prevent diabetes (hey, if that were true, and I knew I'd get diabetes -- I might as well have just become a body builder and dodge that bullet to begin with!). On the outside I just smiled, but I snuck a winking smiley face next to that option and wrote "Hah!" (underlined).

Ahh, the subtle ways we speak up ;)

It gets very annoying to me, also! I am the only type 1 diabetic in our entire school. Most of my teachers/friends thinks that they can tell me what to eat and when to eat it. My closest friends and a few of my close teachers understand. However, some of my classmates think that it is not acceptable if I eat any sugar at all. The other day, we had a foods day in speech class, and most of the food was made of sugar and I decided that I wanted a tiny piece...A boy in my class thought it would be appropriate to say, "You have diabetes...You can't eat that!!"  It just drives me crazy!!

I'm very good about controlling my diabetes and my diet. I follow it 99.5% of the time! I mean, my last a1c was 5.6!

Blessings!

What's the worst is when you answer someone's questions and they keep asking the same question over and over again. At work I explained that my pump is not a glucometer but whenever I'm bolusing I hear the question "oh what's your blood like?" even after I showed the separate machine that does that. Also annoying are comments such as: "Oh, are you drinking that because your sugar is high/low?" when, you know, oftentimes people drink things for the mere consumption of drinking. I drink Diet Coke because I prefer it to Root Beer, and I rather not drink the latter just because it would be a waste of insulin. It has nothing to do with my blood sugar at the time.

General segregation in that respect is just annoying.

It is also so annoying when people ask does it hurt and where do you take your shota and stuff like that. Also it annoying that the nurse at my school has to calculate the carbs and junk when i already no it.
