Some people are just idiots like that, and can't handle when life gets less-than-perfect for them. As a result of that, they make fun of any one else who is less-than-perfect also. My advice would to be forget them - they aren't worth your time, effort, health, thought, any and all part of you, Crochet Nut. They're just plain idiotic, and that's as deep as they will ever be.

I am sorry for your loss - if you ever need to talk, I'm here for you.

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family.

I am sorry that you also had to go through this experience with these young people. I think you did the right thing by approaching them and addressing the issue itself. Extending the invitation, of sorts, to ask questions trying to correct their ignorance of Diabetes. Talking about this particular situation with those of us who understand will be a big help to you. Keeping the hurt bottled up isn't good for you, which you already know. We're all here to listen and offer our support.

I am sorry to hear about your mother in law.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  You are a bigger person than I am because I may have just 'lost it' on them if it was me.  The poise you showed says a lot about you.  They say what comes around goes around and the people who were talking about you will someday have a similar situation and they will realize they were wrong.  You may not hear of it but it will happen.  Keep your head up and let us on here know if we can do anything for you.  We'll be here for support.  Be well.
